My name is Karin Sodervall and I live with my family in Massachusetts, USA, but was born and raised in Sweden.
As long as I can remember, I've been painting or drawing, and art is something that gives me great pleasure.
In 2001, after graduating with a M.Sc. degree in biology from the University of Stockholm, I moved to China, and while there, I tried my hand at the traditional ink painting and also started to dabble in acrylics. While the ink painting was an interesting technique, acrylic painting felt more versatile and I started experimenting with colors and form.
Then in 2008, I moved to the U.S. where I eventually started to take classes in acrylic painting, in which I learned different techniques and styles, often inspired by well-known artists such as VanGogh, Wolf Kahn, Monet and others.
In addition to the classes, I also started to do more and more paintings in our home, finding my own style, making everything from landscape paintings, to people, to pop art - some realistic, some more loosely painted.
“When I see beautiful or interesting things, or shapes or light that flutters in a special way, I get inspired to paint. It is a process, and a never-ending learning experience, and I find that my style is ever changing and fluid. “
